Several friends in the journalism business have told me that scolding won't work. I regret that my tone does come off that way at times.

But it disappoints me no end to watch people I respect so much trap themselves this way, when they could readily free themselves.

I wish they'd get organized to move forward in a way that defends their online presence, not to mention their consciences.

So, apologies if all this sounds too preachy, but I believe the stakes are worth it.
