There are growing calls for simplification of the UK's tax system (often voiced in the FT).
Certainly, simplifying the tax system would reduce the ability of the rich to game the system & might well (if handled right) remove elements (around thresholds) that punish the lower paid.
BUT, this should not be confused with support for a flat tax, the regressive simplification favoured by the right.
We need a progressive, simple & fair tax system, not more free-rides for the rich.
