my mom taught me something that really stayed with me: when you're emotionally compromised, do not post on social media. she taught me that right after my first real breakup. as a result, i stopped posting on social media really ever. fast forward 12 years, i live in a different state very far away form my parents, and while i post on mastodon fairly regularly, i hardly ever even go on facebook, let alone post there. consequently, my mom never really hears from me aside from seldom phone calls
