What happens if the leader doesn't hold a seat (or lost in his riding) is there will be a by-election in some party stronghold (the elected member there will quit) and the leader will run there. If that party leader is PM, the party has to either get him elected somewhere else or chose a new leader. The PM has to also be an MP.
