Steam Machines was a great real world examples why zealots that have an irrational hatred of non-native Linux games makes no sense. The Steam Deck is a great example of getting the games working no matter that it was originally coded for Windows.
Games on the Deck largely runs well and it's an absolute achievement for the Linux Gaming community. Much of the achievements we've seen in recent years in Linux gaming, is because of Steam Machine's failure and Valve's massive investment into the toolsets for the games people love, working on Linux. Is it perfect? No, but for the most part it works. Majority of gamers just want the game to work & the Steam Deck does that for the PC gaming space.
