it is kind of funny to me how all the reviews of Pokémon TCG pocket simultaneously criticize the game for microtransactions or how long it takes to complete a set, but at the same time praise it for emulating the card pack opening well or for allowing you to make your cards fancier.
It kind of feels like an analysis that's surface-level on purpose because if it weren't then we'd have to talk about the elephant in the room of how pack opening is kinda like gambling or the other elephant in the room that real life card games extract a lot more money for even more scummy stuff
Like there is a reason why a pokémon tcg card game that's focused less on the actual game and more on ripping open packs is booming. there's also a reason why the game's packs are smaller than real life. (same reason why magic arena's packs are smaller). There's a reason why there's a system of sacrificing cards for more visual effects (but not other cards). etc
