I covered several political conventions years ago, and while politics has changed dramatically, the basic media approach for covering them has not – it is semi-hagiographic, a "moment in history" in which the nominee is "bonding with the party and reaching out to the country."
Covering conventions like that was dumb then, and outright malpractice now.
