I find it mildly interesting that substack has succumbed to user-hostile antipaterns like every other major blogging platform before it (medium, blogger, etc.).
Early in substack's life, one of the pitches was that, by having users pay for content directly (as opposed to via ads), they would be incentive aligned with users and wouldn't need to do the bad stuff other sites to, but a lot of the bad stuff falls out of engagement-optimized ranked feeds, not ads!
