I have little concern for people I mute. I can see how I wouldn't want some people to see me mute them if I generally like them but not the torrents of fotos they share of every tiny encounter along their day but I want to see if people mute me, especially those I follow.
Jordan Peterson once said something along the lines of "We outsource our sanity to the people around us. If we go off the rails, they tell us by frowning or shunning." If you don't see/feel that your messages are off track, you don't get back on track easily.
