(2/3) The desktop environments and underlying compositors improved drastically and the one I primarily use (Phosh) is very much enjoyable by now despite a few annoying bugs but that doesn't help all that much to improve the overall experience because you spend very little time outside of apps. The Gnome/KDE "conflict" around theming, onscreen keyboards and co. is more noticeable than on any other kind of device too.
