so i just fried the usbc charging port on my laptop and phone and i would really like to know what i did wrong. i soldiered the 5v output from one of these guys:
to the vbus and ground on a usbc connector (i bought a pack of them on ebay). i tried the phone first and i did "nothing". Actually this is when it killed it but nothing noticable happened. Then i tried the laptop and smoke came out. Now neither of them work.
The whole point of this was the charge my laptop on my boat which only works when i have a lot of sun (not this time of year) and i when i hook up this little 65 watt usbc module DIRECTLY to my solar panals (18-20v). it doesn't work hooking it up to the battery (~13v). So i bought a 100watt converter to 5v thinking it would give me enouhg juice to get it done and now im here 😕
its possible the i shorted together1 and 2 of the riiculously small pins on the connector... im pretty clumsy with a soldiering iron. i noticed this and lazily tried it anyway. i tested everything thoroughly, 5v everywhere it should be... but then i tested the output on the chargers that worked in the past and they all have about 3v... idk
also is it worth it/possible to go to one of those phone repair shops to patch my phone up in order to not piss my boss off this week? ordering a new pixel either way but it itll be a minute before i get it
