I think you hit the nail on the head here, there is always something at the top of your belief system or aspirations, and you have to be very conscious what it will do to you.
If your 'guiding light' is negative, a void or constantly revolving or (as is the case with woke marxists) hate of hierarchies themselves is on top, you are in for an aimless destructive and nihilistic time, and it will, initially or eventually, turn onto yourself.
