The thing about political norms is that if you recklessly break one, you can't turn around and complain when another is broken. The Tennessee lawmakers who voted to expel two Black colleagues for protected speech deserve the same safety as anyone else. But convenience? Peace and quiet? Not so much. At the least, if I owned a restaurant in Nashville, I wouldn't knowingly serve them. There should be consequences outside of the electoral, but short of the violent, for racism and eroding democracy.
