An orphaned California condor hatchling bonds with a stuffed condor after its mother died of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), also known as avian flu.

The chick (which is healthy!) hatched from an egg that rescuers removed from a nest cave. A plush "condor" will keep the chick company until it can be moved to foster parents, which will ease its eventual transition back into the wild.
