Oculus had a couple of good scares but I didn't find it super memorable. Midnight Mass had some nice "oomph" at times but also felt too long and directionless in places. I think it's one of the problem shows I was thinking about. On the other hand, unrelated to him, I've enjoyed some American Horror Story seasons a great deal and no one would call those strongly plotted or concise or accuse them of wrapping up neatly. So I might try a little more, keeping in mind what you wrote.
