Breaking News: The US State Department has just designated the "Nordic Resistance Movement" & 3 of its leaders, as "Specially Designated Foreign Terrorists" (SDFT). The move prohibits US citizens from supporting the group, with penalties reaching as high as 20 years in prison a fine of up to $250,000. The designation also inhibits (but does not completely forbid) travel to the US.
This is the second-most severe terrorist category, falling just below that of "Foreign Terrorist Organization," for which the penalties are even higher.
The NRM is a hardline National Socialist group based in Sweden. It also has affiliates in Norway, Denmark, Iceland & the Faroe Islands. The group has been declared illegal in Finalnd.
It is not clear why the SDFT designation was issued at this time. Although members & former members of the group have committed crimes on occasion, the NRM itself is a legal, open political party in Sweden & has not conducted illegal activities.
