macOS solved the problem of pro audio very simply: everything uses the same API and it's designed to handle both consumer and pro audio simultaneously.

kind of like Pipewire is doing now. but it's still not as good as Core Audio. when i try to route my DAW through it, the latency is too high, no matter how low i set the buffer size.
