Unique for the scope of the page is a dodgy habit (two years from now, you decide to make the Latest Posts bit on your front page show the first snippet of each post as well as link and tags, and you've put the same ID on an element in two posts). It's always possible to use GUIDs but they are horrid, as you note. But if you check across all previous posts for the ID existing then you're obviously all good; that's the bit I think people find hard!
