"there's no cross-platform way to do this" but it turns out there was a cross-platform way to do it but one of windows or mac doesn't support it because someone at those companies decided they wanted to do it in a different way from everyone else, and as a result every program has to either pick one platform to not support, or it has to do everything in two different ways
