Since Linotype working drawings were all done to the same overall size of 10" high, the relative scale varied from size to size. For example, something that was destined to be 0.0125 inches in the final matrix would be drawn at 0.801" on a 12pt drawing, but would be drawn much larger at 1.667" for a 6pt one.
To facilitate this, special sets of brass scales were made up for the Drawing Office workers. Here is an image of four such scales: 12pt, 9pt, 8pt and 6pt.
