Fundamental to both the "hacker" and "maker" mindsets (which are really just digital and physical incarnations of the same idea, in my opinion) is the attitude one takes of looking at a thing not for what it is, or what it was intended to be, but for what you can make of it -- finding the potential in things, and actualizing it.
