I don't think "goodness" is necessarily a valuable proposition to consider when talking about evolution of human species.
The question is, what are your objectives?
However we dress up our "western civilization", the objectives are;
1. Maintain and grow the hierarchical power dynamic with very few, very affluent people.
2. Maintain the bulk of the population (90+%) is a productive state where they bring in more resources for the elites and retain enough for themselves for a stable society.
3. Rely on an even larger population outside of the political structure you control, the poorer nations where you can abuse and destroy their long term viability for resources.
This current structure is not a long term viable enterprise.
IMHO. If your long term survival AND optimal performance characteristics of a society are your objectives, you do need to consider "goodness" as we understand it.
