Despite her long and distinguished career, Diane Abbott came to the notice of many in 2017 when she happened to stumble over some figures during a TV interview (it was later revealed that she has type 2 diabetes, and her schedule made it tough to control). From that point, everyone from commentators to people in the street took it upon themselves to disrespect and mock the intelligence of this Cambridge-educated Black woman.
