If you are willing to spend a little more then get a Skywatcher AZ GTI mount ($400 onsale) which gives you automatic tracking and GoTo capability. Then get yourself a good 80mm Refractor like the Astro Tech 80-ED Doublet or something similar. Look to spend about $400 plus/minus on this refractor.
Then get yourself a set of Gold Ring eyepiece (4 in total) which give you low 20x to 50x , medium 60x to 90x and high power 100x to 150x magnification. This set can be had for $100 plus/minus.
This will give you good views of night sky objects while minimizing price, frustration and hassle.
