It's astonishing to me how the billionaires of today have forgotten the patronage model of support for the arts that their pre-20th century antecedents developed. And failed to realize how modern copyright law would enable them to could turn it into a combination of tax write-off (near term charitable donations) and capital investment scheme (long term acquisition of fine art) while also supporting the arts along the way (good publicity).
