Part of the reason I ask is I am literally a scholar and lecturer of queer and trans studies...and I feel like this is coming from a place outside of how we talk about it generally as a field, and may be more about other situations.
As well, I work supporting young trans folks in my dayjob, so I need to know if conventions and norms are shifting around this any which way, and for what reasons in that case.
