Nolte's piece on the closing of Nordstrom ends thus:
"I think San Francisco will miss Nordstrom once it closes for good this summer. No matter how many excuses and explanations you hear about the decline of San Francisco, the city we knew and admired is going away bit by bit. And it’s never coming back."
Like Nolte, I can remember when Nordstrom opened. Unlikely Nolte, I was never much of a fan of it as a store. (Even the cool curved escalators stop before you get to the Nordstrom level.)
But sure, as a department store, fine. I think I bought things there a couple of times.
And I try to resist what can feel a bit "old man yells get off my lawn/at clouds" in the lamentations for the City I love, the City I grew up in, disappearing. Changing?
