I've done paste (manual syringe) and reflow ($20 toaster oven) with 8yr olds and it's worked out pretty well. Also done hand solder (tin one pin, hokd part with tweezers in one hand, heat pad with iron and put part in with other, the solder remaining pads) but that's a bit more finesse and coordination dependent. Definitely don't want to go below 1mm pitch with first timers though.",
