He'd buy a ticket for (say) 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 — mostly because it really wound up his girlfriend. Every number combination is the same probability as every other, but people find that *really* hard to believe.
I did some mentoring for a while, and one of the things I'd do would be to play simple betting games with the kids with dice, coins, cards and play money. It was a thing my family would do together from time to time when I was growing up, and I suspect it helped me grasp probability when we finally learned it in math lessons. Be the casino for your kids and demonstrate to them how no matter how amazing the prizes seem and how good the odds seem, the house always wins!
