Many movie directors: "People only care about TV shows, they don't watch enough movies these days."
Also movie directors: "Come watch my new movie, it's only three and a half hours long."
So dear movie directors,
I love you. I love your art. Watching movies has been one of my passions since I was a child. In the 80s, 90s, and even 00s, I have watched more movies than I can count and than more sane human beings can imagine.
But guess what? In this day and age, we're all too busy, we're all exhausted, physically or mentally or both, we're all burned out, and some of us are trying to raise kids in the middle of that.
Do you know when I have the time to watch something that's more than an hour long? On Friday and Saturday nights. That's all. And I mean at home, going to a theater is probably a thing of the past for me (or maybe if I retire, if I get to retire).
And do you know what happens if I try to watch something that's more than two hours long on those nights? I fall asleep on my couch, this is what happens.
So maybe, if you want more people to watch your movies, maybe you should remember that during most of the history of cinema, a long movie was one that lasted two hours.
Honestly, I miss watching your movies, but we need to meet somewhere halfway through, don't you think?
