"it's all in the mind" - as some philosophers said, that's the only thing we have to perceive the world, so there isn't really any tooling from inside to distinguish between "real" and "not real".

...which reminds me, I've seen a video about a schizophrenia assist dog, trained to greet people pointed at. You see someone, you tell the dog to greet them, it says hello, you go on with interacting; the dog just stares at you, you know it's your mind playing tricks.
