In honor of Non-Binary People’s Day, it's worth recognizing that being non-binary is not the same as "trans" and, despite public discourse, is usually unrelated.
"Trans" stems from a person having a different identity than assigned at birth.
Being non-binary has several possible bases:
1) Being born intersex
2) Having a fluid gender identity (which is one overlap with trans)
3) Having a sex or gender identity that does not neatly fit into man/masculine or female/feminine.
