The light emitted from the flame is made of photons. Photons interact with matter and can be blocked, creating shadows. If an object is placed between the flame and a surface, the photons will be blocked, creating a shadow. Without an object between the flame (light) and the surface to block the photons, no shadow can form. Hence, no shadow from a light source (flame)
