Physics tells us that something that's highly radioactive is that only for a short amount of time (think hundreds of years) while something that's radioactive for a long time isn't very dangerous (when talking about 100000 of years that's the same radioactivity as living in Denver)

Somewhere we stopped listening to science when it comes to nuclear energy - while we're adamant about listening to the science with regards to climate change.

We don't even need to bury spent nuclear fuel. 95% of the energy content is still there (just unused in most of the current reactors) - just store it on site until we decide to use it all.
