Ill address my toot about trickle-down feminism since I've received some replies stating that my understanding of it is flawed.
Having a handful of women or any other Identities in that regard in elite boardrooms and elite positions does not shatter the chains that bind the working-class woman to her plight. They dont even move their chains. Take for instance, women who work as domestic workers. They scrub floors, care for children, and maintain households, often under oppressive conditions overseas, with minimal rights and protections. (i know because my mother is one of them). This is all happening while the society celebrates a few women in suits. The ascent of a few CANNOT and should not be misconstrued as the upliftment of all.
Until the woman who cleans someones shit and the woman who commands a boardroom have equal voice, equal rights, and equal respect, our work is unfinished. The true measure of progress must be gauged by how we treat our most vulnerable, not just by who sits at the head of the table.
