All of us have sacred cows.
For our Hindu friends, these are actually living, breathing, and mooing cows, but for most of us these scared cows are metaphorical.
Some of these metaphorical cows actually are sacred and ought to be protected and clung to in varying degrees, including some to the death. Others are actually profane cows that we have baptized as a result of disordered loves, the way we were raised, and/or as a consequence of the spirit of the age.
Those cows need to die. And as painful as that might be in the short term, it will provide us with a bunch of juicy steak to cook over coals on a glorious Uruguayan parrillero (like the one pictured below). Those cows will provide the strength we need to fight for the cows that actually matter.
