When we saw Star Trek breaking ground in 1966 and reruns forever onward, we saw infinite diversity in infinite combinations, and were inspired to be engineers, scientists, explorers, to reach for the stars, find common ground with peoples we found to be alien, and choose to make friends and allies rather than to wage war.
But the aspirational humanitarian nature came from inside ourselves. We didn’t see that others saw instead torpedoes, phasers, technological supremacy, and ships of war.
