You'll hear people saying that non-competes are needed to protect intellectual property or trade secrets. That's really BS as any concerns about those are already covered in non-disclosure agreements. Employers should not have any right to place restrictions on the way you decide to make a living, who you can work for, and who you are allowed to interact with once you have left that company.
