i think you might be on to something with hybrid workflows and systems for certain things. if i had the money (and i don't) to light on fire i'd consider getting a mac for music work. it's just not in the cards. reaper is great (but complex imho, i'm still learning it). you can grab a trial of it and give it a day in court.
i came from the days when we used trackers and crummy 8bit samples for everything. things have come a long way but with that came complexity.
