Groups that developed techniques which allowed the women to fight alongside the men had a much higher survival rate and dominated those that didn't. You see this with things like the bow and arrow and other ranged weapons. Either women learned how to use them or the neighboring tribe that did overran you.
Recognize that for 99% of women today this is irrelevant because they can outsource security through taxes and democracy. Which is fine as long as law and order persists. For me and my tribe, anyone can wash the dishes just like anyone can put rounds on target.
