In the 80s and 90s, Orpheus Island off the coast of Queensland hosted a major giant clam research center. While the center was closed down, the research was influential and seeded giant clam aquaculture throughout the Indo-Pacific, from Palau to the Red Sea. Most importantly, the clams from the study were left in place and have grown to be over 3 feet long! At low tide, a "chorus" of jets of water can be seen. I hope to see these giants someday. #clamFacts
