As far as I can tell, there are two possibilities about non-human sentience. Either we get over our anthropocentrism and recognize that we already share the world with many sentient non-human beings, or we never do, and then we will also never find any such creatures anywhere else in the universe, because no matter what we find, we will always invent something that justifies treating it as non-sentient. The search for other civilizations starts in our own heads.
