I’m pretty sure I read an article that Starmer has U-turned on the HoL promise as he has on pretty much everything else. The article claimed he would be adding more people to HoL to ‘balance’ the huge Tory input. Original concept of a retirement date at 80 seems to have dropped also. Whole HoL needs changed to an elected house (from arts, business etc)with maximum terms, not life peers. See Ireland’s Seanad model.
