In the following essay, created as a class project, I visited several shopping centers in Riverside and San Bernardino (California) to document Christmas shopping. (Yes, March is a strange time of year to be showing Christmas pictures, but maybe that dissonance helps convey the sense of alienation I felt for the subject.)
