The DMA is a good piece of legislation, but it took years to approve, and now that is out hundreds of folks in the legal teams of these companies are trying to figure out how to bypass it as much as they can - resulting in few more years of lawsuits, fines and negotiations.

Even when the EU manages to assert its jurisdiction, it often results in multimillion fines that companies like Apple have started considering as “operating costs”, rather than a punishment for not complying.

The solution for me is simple: if a product is built by a company that is hostile both towards users and regulators, I don’t use those products, period. It’s not like we don’t have alternatives to smartphones and tablets.

We often blame it on capitalism, but despite all of its flaws there’s a way to get capitalism to care about us: when we stop buying. We have a choice and we should leverage it. Not buy crap and then ask the EU to fix our crap.
