Pass on the word npub129gvast08lj986yftn7q5qlnj8yfqufxx0m33s9u5xssjm8c64rsve4kwg (npub129g…4kwg), npub1z593nnjdmh5yam2f07g2ck7g4zmgf5nk3kh9kc3y9jy9z05z5l8q3xnpt7 (npub1z59…npt7), and others, Serde-Derive has dropped the pro-compiled binaries!
The commit says he still wants to do it at some point, and apparently he's using this as a way to push harder for crates.io to support binaries (you can read about this in the comments on this Reddit post), but for now #Rust nature is healing...
However, he didn't offer an apology at all, & so far those blocked/banned from the serde GitHub haven't been let back on either. This current issue may be over for now, but it doesn't seem like it's settled.
I think a good lesson learned from all of this is that cult of personalities around such individuals are unwarranted, at best. Further still, this should be taken a sign that such important resources to the #RustLang ecosystem likely need to be interwoven into the language system directly, rather than be under the control of one person outside of it.
