It struck me yesterday that harming children for profit, as our medical and pharmaceutical industries do, is something adults have been willing to do, probably forever. It's not unprecedented. In some countries, children are blinded, or they have a hand chopped off, to make them more effective beggars. Kids have also long been prostituted at the same ages they are currently being sterilized and mutilated.
We just had a little bit of a golden time and place, when I was growing up in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s, when that was supposed to be over. It was supposed to be not part of our culture. If not totally eliminated, it was, at least, against the law and was opposed by almost everyone.
