The way Australia is leaping into the "fight against anti-Semitism" is scaring the shit out of me tbh.

To be clear, anti-Semitism exists. Jewish people are definitely targeted by it. It's abhorrent and needs to stop..

Also, there has definitely been a rise in anti-Semitism under the guise of criticism of Israel - criticism of Israel isn't anti-Semitism, but people are engaging in anti-Semitism and pretendi its support for Palestine.

..but the Australian government isn't interested in addressing anti-Semitism (as witnessed by its complete inaction against anti-Semitism to date).

They are going to use the *synagogue fire in Melbourne, and the **graffiti and car fire in Woollahra, to push through more legislation to curb civil rights, especially the right to protest.

** the graffiti was anti-Israel, not anti-Semitic (from what I've seen), and the car fire could just be destruction of a stolen vehicle because it's the car the persons who did the graffiti drove there
