It looks like it was the bad block table logic decided to go ahead and start flagging anything it thought looked bad, which because it has apparently the wrong ECC algorithm, trashed everything it touched.
Which means anywhere on any partition on the entire disk.
By the grace of god, it seems not to have touched the bootloader, but it torched everything else.
