Security forces in Russia-occupied #Abkhazia violently detained several opposition figures, sparking protests and blockades of key infrastructure across the region. Armed men have surrounded government buildings, as opposition groups demand the immediate release of those arrested.
Authorities of the occupied territory allege that the detainees "physically attacked a local politician," which led to their arrests. The opposition had previously announced plans for a protest on Nov. 15, coinciding with the de facto Abkhazian parliament's scheduled ratification of a Russian-Abkhazian investment agreement which would free Russian capital of virtually any taxation which locals fear would result full absorption of Abkhazia into #Russia. While the detained were later released, tensions continue to remain high
